.: featured project :.
Ward III Neighbors
goal:
to create an online presence for Ward III Neighbors, an independent association of the 35 neighborhoods in Tucson, Arizona
audience:
35 neighborhoods in Ward III, and any other interested parties in the general public
colors:
blue, white, green, brown, black
mood:
fresh, newsy, read like a newsletter
font:
Georgia (serif) for the headings and Verdana (sans-serif) for the body text
ingredients:
This site is built with XHTML and CSS; the content is served through an open-source PHP template system borrowed from WordPress, and popular weblog application. The site uses current web standards for design and construction. I basically built one template with PHP that is filled in with whatever content is called when a user follows a navigational link on the home page.
design considerations:
I really wanted the site to be legible and easy to read, so I used a little larger font size than I would have otherwise. The graphic design was done in Photoshop, with the most complicated thing being the gradient smoothness. The logo and maps were designed by George Wheeler of geowhe.com
Other important factors were scalability for future development and ease of use for web novices, since a lot of the intended audience may or may not have experience online.
I also polished the user interface for Ward III Neighbors officials to change content, add links, and post newsletters.
